If you or I were to rent a house from our mother-in-law,
and if you or I were also an MP,
and even if you or I were wanting to portray our party's pro-landlord policies as sympathetic to the needs of renters,
it probably would not occur to us to claim to identify with renters because I am one of youse.
But we are not Chris Bishop.
He was more than happy to declare:
Renters of Wellington,
I too feel the chill winds of renting.
I too feel your pain of mould,
and cold,
and Quinovic property managers,
and whatnot.
For I am one of youse.
