Record-breaking Prime Minister

Record-breaking Prime Minister

On Monday I watched this happening and I thought well this will surely be the defining image of the week.

Here we see someone cosplaying, as usual, in hi-vis when that is demonstrably unnecessary, as demonstrated by the woman standing next to him.

Although, to be fair, hi-vis is something you wear for dangerous work where you could get into trouble if you don’t know what you’re doing. This is a good description of the job Prime Minister, particularly when your greatest danger may well be the woman standing next to you.

Such a phoney, though. He was there to announce they were turning on the tap for the same construction spending they made such a big chest-thumping show of turning off when they came to power.

Do they have a fricken clue what they’re doing? Here’s a clue in three words: Cook, Strait, and ferry.

Yesterday I watched this happening and I thought actually no, this will surely be the defining image of the week.

All too predictable that they would bring to the lectern such a contemptuous disregard for science, accumulated knowledge, human life and human beings, particularly neuro-divergent ones.

Did we just imagine that whole thing, the way humanity eradicated so much disease and accumulated so much knowledge over the 20th century? It can sometimes feel like it as ever more anti-vaxxers and everyone else who resents being failed at science in high school takes their revenge.

Look at them, though. If either of these men were your father, what lengths would you go to keep them away from your daughters?

This morning I watched this happening and I thought this will probably not be the defining image of the week, but holy hell all the same.

It has clearly become accepted wisdom amongst CEO types that our kids r dumbarsesbecause the lefty woke education system has failed them as reported in various ways by the NZ Initiative. It is also being conveyed to these people that this Erica Stanford has what it takes to get it sorted.

I just wonder if they understand that Minister Stanford has let loose a bunch of ideologues on a curriculum change mission that stands to transform schools from sites of social development into mechanisms for economic sorting that benefit those already advantaged while abandoning society’s most vulnerable members.

Or maybe that’s the real problem. They do, and they’re into it.

Anyway, I watched all those images and then Trump stepped forward to a non-functioning mic and a non-functioning teleprompter at the UN and we had a new defining image of the week as the non-functioning president just unloaded for about an hour. Sharia law in London! Windmills, as he calls turbines, being horrible and a disaster. An endless rambling litany of his objects of hate.

You keep willing a meteor to come down through the heavens and up the UN escalator and into the General Assembly and up to the lectern, but you wait and wait and nothing.

Meteor, you still have three days to become the picture of the week.

You’re here with me now but you’re saying

You don’t want me any more

Dedicated to our Prime Minister of less than two years who was being asked this morning if he’s going to step down. He may not have set many records but he is way out in front with that one.
