It is share a problem morning at Kia Kaha Primary School.
Kiara says
Miss, I don't like going on the bus any more.
Whyās that Kiara, asks Ms Barry
Kiara says,
Some of the Kia Kaha High boys have been sharing sex pictures on their phone and saying things about the girls.
Like what kinds of things, asks Ms Barry.
Kiara says,
Well like this morning Jordan W said no means yes and yes means something else I wasn't sure what the word was but it just gave me a bad feeling the way he was looking when he said it.
And then they started saying names of some girls and what they would get them to do and stuff.
And it was just really gross.
Tahlia says,
Miss my brother hangs out with Jordan W too and they were talking like that too when he came over last weekend.
I asked them to stop, but Jordan said I should shut up because girls are supposed to respect boys.
And I told them that's not right because like, you know, you told us,
you said girls can do anything and every person deserves respect.
And Jordan said who says?
And I told him you did.
And he told me I didn't know what I was talking about and teachers don't either.
And then he started talking about this guy Andrew and he said that guy talks the truth and that's why they shut him down.
And I said like what does he say and he said well like my man Andrew keeps a machete by his bed and he says if his woman ever accused him of cheating he would not hesitate use it on her and stuff.
And I said that's so wrong
And he said no it's not. If your woman doesn't respect you, you have to put her in her place.
And he was going to show us some video of the guy.
But just then Mum came into the lounge and said what did you just say Jordan and he looked kind of uncomfortable but he said my man Andrew Tate says a woman is your property and if she doesn't behave you have to bring her into line.
And well then Mum just went absolutely off.
So in the end it was kind of crack up
But I don't like it when it Jordan comes over, Miss.
Abi says,
Miss, that's the guy my brother and his friends watch too.
I don't think theyāre really that into him because they make jokes while they're watching.
But they keep on watching and I don't like it because for real that guy is super creepy.
Amelia says to Abi,
Is that the guy on Tik Tok with the cigars and guns and bling who says if you have mental health issues you're just weak and lazy and really you're just sad because your life's not as good as his?
Abi nods.
Amelia says,
Yeah I heard some of the high school boys talking about him.
Heās just sick, you should hear what he says about girls asking for it.
Saskia says,
My sister was saying something on the phone last night about her boyfriend making her do stuff she doesn't want to but then she closed the door so I donāt know if itās the same thing or not.
Madison says,
My sister had a boyfriend like that but he did this thing where he told her he hooked up with some other girl and she should be okay with it because a guy has a right to do that.
And she told him he was so dumped.
And so then he was texting her every three minutes saying I just made it up babe it's what I saw on this website about treat them mean.
But she just told him you're still so dumped you creep.
Ms Barry is smiling. She says,
Iām glad to hear your sister hasnāt changed, Madison.
Sophie asks,
Why do boys say that stuff Miss?
Ms Barry says,
The thing is, this isnāt the only classroom where you can learn things.
The whole world is your classroom really.
And there are people who have worked out that you can make a lot of money online by saying whatever will get people's attention.
Thatās what this man Andrew has worked out.
And he may not even believe what he's telling the boys to believe.
But heās doing it for the following and the money and theyāre learning from him anyway.
Moana says,
But what if he really does believe what he's telling them Miss?
Ms Barry says,
I'm not really sure, Moana. We could try fixing the Internet, I suppose.
Amelia says
Or we could try fixing Men.
Ms Barry thinks of an answer, but she decides not to say it.
