Large chunks of the memory of John Key's time as Spectator Prime Minister have already drifted away. But the day he started riffing about an imaginary place called Planet Key is not so easy to lose.
What a tableau. How vividly he gave colour and shape to his languid disconnection from reality. There would be no one working on Planet Key, just endless lovely golf courses, and no toilets. We learned that day that he has, without question, a capacity to imagine a place that does not exist and never will.
These recent weeks he has been back on his bullshit. He wants us to know about the world beyond the walls of our hermit kingdom where everyone has learned to live with the Plague and they are once again Open For Business, that great deity of our age. Behold Sir Mate genuflecting towards it.
