Trying to decide how I feel about police getting suspects to hand over their login details so that they can get onto Facebook and WhatsApp and Telegram and other places and go:
hello Liam I am ur friend Kyle and not the police how’s it going u got any crimes planned bro
This is great, say the police, it helps us to for example lure in online predators and pedophiles and, well, who’s going to gainsay that?
But also, do we feel this might be giving them undue power? Because hardly any of us are keen on the idea of the state acting like Nazis except, of course, for actual Nazis. And who ever imagined that fiesta of fascism could come so far back into vogue in our lifetime?
