The big promise of the Internet is that it can connect you to all manner of things, all kinds of people.
I still hold the most vivid image of my very first web connection, 29 years ago now. It was the homepage of someone somewhere out west in America — let’s say it was Montana even if it wasn’t, it felt like that, this picture of a log cabin under a big sky.
All in a moment, looking at that image and reading about the family living in the house in the picture, I could see such exciting possibilities, not only for connecting with people, but also for plying a speech writing business across the world. And that’s exactly what happened next.
