I walked up and down Broadway Avenue in Palmerston North yesterday morning thanks to Google Streetview and got a couple of memory jolts. But that can come next. First, I want to make a random observation: Broadway Avenue? Whose idea was it to call it Broadway Avenue?
I’m not sure I ever really registered, growing up, that it had such a cluttered mess of a name and wasn't just called Broadway the same way they do in New York City and Newmarket and Marton.
Wherever else in Aotearoa there is one, I would be very surprised if anyone calls it anything but Broadway. But Broadway Avenue? WTAF, PN?
