You have to do something

A jolting moment in a movie a can stay with you for the longest, longest time. Those Hitchcock birds; human remains in Cambodia’s Killing Fields; what remains of the Statue of Liberty on the beach; Thelma, Louise, their Thunderbird.

Sometimes we’re simply taking our imagination for a ride into a dark place, the better to feel the solace of knowing that’s not us, will likely never be us, our life is not so bad.

The dystopian fare of recent years doesn’t feel to be offering any of that solace or reassurance; rather they’re cautionary tales for a world rolling the dice and willing the odds to be forever in our favour.
