It had its benign dimension β€” the teddy bears in windows and press-up challenges and 1.00pm briefings, it also had the darkest uncertainty and unease.

Do you remember the grim forecasts from the bank economists? Some of those unemployment projections were gulp-making:  6%; 8%; 12%; how about north of 20%?
