I was on my way up Queen Street, a few steps short of the Victoria Street lights, when he caught my eye. We were both white men of a certain greyness, and the way he leaned in, conspiratorial, told me he'd already decided we were fully on the same page. NZ Herald, probably. Or the Newstalk ZB Facebook one.

It’s okay to say the thing you’re already saying
What Woman, New Zealander, Heterosexual is doing is claiming embattled-minority status on behalf of the actual majority. Nobody is threatening Helen’s right to be any of those things. Woman, New Zealander, Heterosexual is the most unthreatened identity in the country after Male and White.
