Ask Uncle Dave
Hey Uncle Dave,
Things have been going so smoothly in the world lately I’ve been finding it a bit boring tbh. So I got quite excited to read about Lake Taupo heating up. Do you reckon it might blow? And would it get to Auckland?
Mr Spock
Greetings Mr Spock!
The Taupo eruption 1800 years ago wiped out about 20,000 square kilometres, and the one about 25,000 years ago buried a decent chunk of the North Island up to its neck in rocks - like 200 metres deep in places - and there was ash all the way to the Chathams. So yes, you could expect some action in Auckland.
Although if it happens the same day Costco opens, it'll be interesting to see if anyone's put off. They’re expecting some pretty stupendous bargains.
Cheers, Dave
My dear Uncle Dave,
It can get really confusing at the office when people suddenly start pouring drinks and saying cheers and singing ABBA songs. Am I at a party or an important work meeting? How is one supposed to tell the difference?
