There's nothing like talk of nuclear war to add some bleakness to the general fun of inflation, and the ever deepening polarisation of politics, although I suppose it is a somewhat welcome distraction from the climate catastrophe.
The anxious speculation has been taking me back to a memory I mentioned recently: our high school history teacher describing the Cuban missile crisis and how sheβd told her class she hoped this wasn't it but prepare yourselves for the worst and so forth.
How close did it come? Pretty damn, is the prevailing commentary.
