Room 13 is drawing the climate crisis! Again!

That is because the climate crisis has not gone away.
In fact, it might not go away at all if the grownups don't stop what they’re doing.

Ms Barry has been explaining what happens at a COP.
She has also been explaining what does not happen at a COP because people find it inconvenient.

It can be disappointing to hear what does not happen because people find it inconvenient.

Ms Barry tells Room 13,
You don't get a say at COP, but you can have your say in a picture.
Draw anything you like.

Henry has drawn a cruise ship.
It is an enormous cruise ship.
It is just like the ones that keep stuffing up the ferries in Auckland.

But something is wrong with it.
It looks like the Titanic, just before Jack and Rose slid off!

Ms Barry asks,
What's the matter with your ship, Henry?
Has the front fallen off?

Henry says,
The main hatchway’s caved in and she's taking on water.

Ms. Barry says,
And what is this saying about the climate crisis?

Henry says,
See all these dudes in suits hanging around the tables?
That's the ship casino.
And the cruise company has told them to keep the casino going until the water's up to their waists.

And I’m guessing by then it will be too late to get everyone safely off the boat?
says Ms. Barry.

Henry says,
I would think so, yes.

Ms. Barry says,
And in the climate crisis your casino owners would be...?

Henry says,
I was thinking the oil companies.
But it could be heaps of people, when you think about it.

Tahlia is concentrating very hard on her drawing.

She is drawing a hand.
Hands are hard to draw.
The hand is holding a phone.
The hand and the phone are attached to a man.
The man is on a pedestrian crossing.
He is pointing the phone at a car.
Why is the man holding the phone like that, Tahlia?, Ms. Barry asks.

Tahlia says,
That's what my Dad does whenever he's on the pedestrian crossing and someone just drives over it in front of him.
He points it at the car and pretends to take a photo as they're driving away.
He doesn't actually have time to get the camera started.
But he says ‘they don't know that’.
He hopes they notice him in the rear vision mirror and feel guilty.

Zac says,
Bet he’s got plenty of photos of Dad’s Ranger.

Tahlia’s face says to Zac,
Bro, r u a bit slow or something?

Patrick says,
I’ll explain it to him.

Tahlia says,
I mean, there's all these things we could be doing if we wanted.
But you ask people to do anything at all, they act like it's too hard.
They say they care,
but they won't even drive at 30 k and stop at crossings to make it easier for the people who walk and bike.

Tane has done a photoshop of Shane Jones!

It is like one of those posters you see on a notice board,
with little strips at the bottom you can tear off.

Ms. Barry says to Tane,
let me guess.

Tane says,
Mum is so dark on him.
She says they've obviously decided they don't even have to pretend to care anymore,
and their voters think the same way.
They think you should be able to do whatever you want and mock anyone who takes it seriously.
She says that pompous patronising blowhard can go and get utterly stuffed.
Only she didn't say 'stuffed'.

Ms Barry says,
I can just hear her.

Amelia says,
It’s a pity they can’t hear us, eh.
