Have you ever sat in ICU? Man, it’s a scary as hell place. Forbiddingly, worryingly quiet, just the steady sound of beeping monitors, the smell of antiseptic, the person you've come to sit with alive, but not a lot more than that.
If you're in ICU, you’re there because you need moment by moment care.
If you're in ICU things really could not be more serious.
And if COVID has brought you there, then things are grim.
All in all, sufficient ICU capacity is something you greatly need and want. But it is not something you want to be using any more than you have to. It is for sure not something you want to expand capacity for, so that you can accommodate greater levels of Covid infection, so that business can go back to normal and someone else can deal with the consequences.
