This is not how I was hoping things would go

I relaxed myself into the dentist chair first thing this morning. I was back for a quick second filling that couldn’t be done on the last visit because it had to go alongside the one he’d just done.

I like the dentist, Geoff, very much. You may recall me mentioning the sign on his door that says Sorry, we’re open.

We always chat amiably, sometimes with bemusement, about this big wide world of ours. I said today that there was so much that had seemed fixed and settled when we were younger that appeared now to be dissolving.
