Poems for the departed
Poem 1

So. Farewell then
Judith Collins.
You were a Minister of
Justice
and a Minister of
Defence
and a Minister of
None of Your Business but
to this little
Substack
you will always be
Pop-Up
Leader
You were Minister of
Space too
Some people are asking who
will protect us from space
aliens now?
But I look at your friends Cameron
Slater and Kristi
Noem
and I have to wonder whose
side you might have actually
taken
if space monsters ever
came.
Poem 2

So. Farewell then
Kristi Noem,
shooter of dogs,
heartless overlord of
ICE
and friend of Judith
Collins.
You have not actually
gone but you
already have a
Lettuce.
And that’s about as official as it
gets
these days.

The thing is, if you want to spice up a story about infrastructure, there are far more gripping angles. Especially in the light of everything happening around us right now.
There are plenty of powerful questions to ask about whether, and how well, our leaders are investing for our future.
And there are extremely incisive and urgent stories to tell about the stakes and the costs of not doing so.
Let’s hear those.
It’s all here, and like every word she ever writes, all worth your time.
