Safe arbor

Going after predators this week took me to the edge of Abel Tasman National Park, through beautiful bush, and into some forestry slash. It can graunch your gears a bit. A moment ago you were  in Tōtara and ferns with darting Piwakawaka and bellbird song, and then this.

It’s the honest pursuit of a living, forestry, but it’s also been proving to be a bit problematic, eh. The carnage, the havoc, that forestry slash has been wreaking on the East Coast is gobsmacking, breathtaking, and it has been building for years now.

As ever, when it comes to a contest between the right to make a buck and giving due care to the wider environment, the reverence for investors and job creators has seen forestry companies being treated far more patiently and gently than say, ram raiders or drunk drivers.
