There was a time when Google was the best thing in my world.
I was an early adopter of their AdWords program and boy did I like what it did for my business. It put rocket fuel in it, is what it did. For every dollar I spent, those ads would earn me four dollars back, more or less clear profit. Good times.
I was under the impression for the longest time that it was the GFC that brought that all back down to earth with a thud. But it was only years later that I would come to understand that the real villain in the tale was Google flexing its algorithmic muscle and taking ever more pounds of flesh out of its advertisers.
