Politics were going on all around us yesterday, and we barely noticed, rolling along canal paths, eating baguettes. It wasn’t until my mate got to the headlines last night that we learned there had been a dismayingly strong far right result in the EU elections and Macron had called a snap election for France.
Much of the time, it can be possible to live your life barely noticing what’s going on in politics. But there will be moments when those politics culminate in so much upending that no one will be left unaware.
