Saturday morning

Wake to the news that Larry King has died, and also that he was 87 which in all honesty is younger than I’d have said. Some people just look old. I assumed when I first encountered Larry King Live in 1991 that he was some kind of elder statesman of broadcasting. He was in fact 57, which is more youth than I myself can now claim. There is a lesson here but I don’t intend to explore it. I want to move on to an anecdote.

I used to teach workshops on speech-making and speech-writing, a sideline that turned into quite a nice regular gig, in Auckland; in Wellington; KL; New York.
